VisitBritain, the official British Tourist Authority, has a longstanding relationship with Digital Visitor.
Since 2008, Digital Visitor has been the official supplier of social media, video production and user generated content (UGC) for the tourist board and ever since, they have been leading the way in social media marketing for destination management organisations and national tourism boards.
For the past 2 years, social media has played a key part in VisitBritain's marketing strategy and they have continued to play a very active role in this forum to really make the most of social media and user generated content, wining numerous awards and accolades for their online marketing efforts.
Using our application, VisitBritain's online visitors are able to share their experiences of Britain by uploading photos, videos and comments, providing other website visitors with rich media content and the trustworthy tourist information they now search for.
In a growing effort to increase the variety and amount of user generated content displayed on their website, the VisitBritain national social media initiative was born.
The initiative is the first of its kind in the world and entails that any regional or national tourist boards in the UK, along with individual tourism providers and individual visitor attractions, who have also signed up to use our Technology, gain greater exposure as each review added to their website is automatically displayed on their local or regional tourist board site, VisitEngland and VisitBritain–assisting in promoting Britain, whilst also showcasing their attraction ordestination to a worldwide audience.

VisitBritain also recently launched their new website www.visitbritain.com which integrates user generated content on the relevant destination guides on the VisitBritain website, providing their online visitors with peer generated content and reviews specific to the destinations they are researching. An example of this integration can be viewed on the London Travel Guide page...
The next stage of the VisitBritain initiative is to engage with students of universities around the UK to help gather regional content which will go towards the national marketing strategy. Each university will be provided with their own solution, so that students can provide actual reviews and content from their local attractions and destinations.
"Part of VisitBritain's remit is not only to promote Britain effectively to an international audience, but also to help inspire more people to become involved in working in the leisure and tourism industry. Involving universities in the national initiative gives students the opportunity to understand and actually participate and influence a live campaign to help promote Britain as a tourism destination." Justin Reid, Head of Online and CRM for VisitBritain
To date Bath Spa, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Plymouth, Middlesex and York Universities' website will all be integrating our technology so students of selected courses (ie. Tourism & Communications) will be able to add their reviews, images and videos of visitor attractions and destinations. When added to the site, all of these reviews, images and photos will automatically be displayed on the VisitEngland and VisitBritain site and will promote Britain to a global tourism audience, whilst enabling the students to participate in a live social media initiative.
VisitBritain has been dedicated to providing potential visitors with relevant user generated experiences to showcase the wonderful experiences Britain has to offer the overseas visitor. Using our technology, they been able to gather a rich source of photos, videos and reviews of destinations from all around Britain.
By integrated this on their new website, they have developed a content-rich digital experience to inspire people for future travel and to encourage them to share positive feedback with friends and family.
VisitBritain recognises that social media has become crucial in the way families decide which holiday to go on, and so syndication and aggregation are enabled within the site so that all content is available across a wide range of travel sites and blogs.
